Well no, they don't owe anyone anything, especially not people exploiting a bug. Besides which they were blue/white items? You can't salvage those anyway...

I fully agree with the way Anet handled this. Period. I got one of those axes for myself in case Anet would decide to keep them around (I didn't want again to be the only idiot who doesn't have one, like with the HoD swords...) but I will gladly throw that thing away now. Case closed. Yes, the people who lost money on that fully deserved it.

the bottom line is: the axe had to be nerfed cause it was way to strong. but a-net should have found a better way to do this. and if its that easy to change a skin pls change the skin of Magmas Arm, Tribal Blade, Aegis etc...

I was speculating how Anet would deal with the issue and I'm very happy that they chose this option *pats Anet on the back*. I'm glad Anet had the balls to do this. I was dreading that they may fix newly generated axes but keep the existing broken ones in game.

To all the whingers out there that are upset that they have lost money trying to exploint a bug: please don't be put off posting your views because people are laughing at you - your posts make such entertaining reading.

I think Anet did the right thing here. People KNEW it was bugged, people were farming the axes. If you bought one, sucks to be you. You knew better.

Live and learn. I didn't buy one because I KNEW something like this was going to happen. This was much worse than a +5 energy sword or a +55 health axe.

I laughed.

quoted for truth

Diablo 2 had massive hacking/glitch exploit problems, and they never retroactively fixed any of it (maybe a few times, but the general modus operandi was to only disallow new ones).

I'm very happy to see that ANet brought down the hand of God on the glitch exploiters. And as for the people selling the axes -- yay capitalism. Selling overpriced junk to stupid people is what makes the world go 'round!

I have to admit, any of the idiots that tried to cash in on this while KNOWING that the exploit was going to be fixed, deserve to have lost any money that they could have otherwise made. As someone said, HoD swords were a bad idea - the axes were an accident, so it was fair to remove them from the game.

I didn't waste any money on these but I did have one in inventory. I know that they had to be nerfed, but I think that Anet handled it completely wrong. All they had to do was customize the axes for anyone, like Gaile for example. That way they could not be equipped any more, but people would still have the option to salvage at least one mod from it.

Yet another example letting us know that Anet doesn't care about the amount of time we spend playing to acquire skills/gold/weapons/mods/runes for certain builds. (Sorry still bitter about all the time wasted on my useless non-farming El/Mo).

Yes, the swords are still around, i have one... I don't think the HoD swords should be nerfed, i am a W/E and if it weren't for that sword my secondary class would be crap, i spike with earth, and it requires i have high energy, and lets face it, even with the full gladiators set warriors get jack crap for energy. The HoD sword may be 1 dmg below max, but i think its a fair trade off.

Unless there is a green sword that gives +5 energy, i will be sticking with my HoD sword for the rest of my guild wars gaming experience.

32 energy warrior ftw!

okay so the HOD sword caused an imbalance...

how so?

If it was availible to everyone then the balance was there...

now that its NOT availible to everyone ( its limited in number and steadily increases in value because anet removed them from crafting)

IMO I think the HOD Sword is and Imbalance NOW.. and wasnt until anet removed them from henge..

( yes I have two, and just sold a third....)

but IMO if your going to cry foul over one " oh crap" that gets found out . you would do well to fix the OTHER oh craps on that list....

removing the HOD sword CREATED an imbalance that wasnt there so long as you could MAKE it...

personally, Id be delighted to loose both my remaining hod swords tomorrow JUST so anet would no longer be hypocritical.....

(yup its hypocritical to tout how you balance a game when you as admin create an imbalance by removing the creation of items but leaving those created in game)

the SOA issue reminds me of d2lod days of ruststorm... these same jokers couldnt get it right over there either.. .... wonder how many working for anet got fired from d2?

Sigh, People.

The 40% axe created an imbalance. It was a exploit. It was not meant to be.

The HoD swords do not create an imbalance. All their mods are legal and within normal limits. The +5 energy with no requirements IS borderline, I'll grant that. But they were INTENDED weapons. Probably intended for Warriors!

The HoD swords were removed because Anet did not want to encourage solo-farming, and they knew this sword was being used by the solo crowd.

Anet left the existing ones in because it did not imbalance the game and because the people who wanted them the most are the same people who could most afford them: farmers.

If you were so clouded by greed that you couldn't see these truths, then you got what you deserved.

That isn't balance. Having exactly one weapon be the absolute best renders all others inferior.

A.Net isn't looking to create a PvP environment where every character is a clone of all the others. Everyone using a HoD sword would encourage exactly that.

And as Carinae said above, HoD had other issues involving farming, too.

Am I the only one who is not really driven by "items" in Guild Wars?? lol

This is no Diablo II guys... get over it.

The PvP items are good enough.

Those Green Items look cool but the stats are the same anyway....

I'll pay A-Net monthly payment if they bring back this +40% enchantment axe and HoD gears with these unconditional +energy.

They wont bring them back. they created an imbalance in the game. They chose this time to take the axe out completely as it was bugged, where as the HOD sword was a craftable item and was origionally ment to be in the game. a double gripped axe was never ment to be in the game.

I'd pay A-net monthly payments to play the BETA VERSION. No wait, I'm pretty sure it's still in beta.

Are people *honestly* still comparing the SoA axes to the HoD swords????

Look, the difference is really quite simple: the HoD swords do ***NOT*** allow you to put more than one of the *SAME* type of upgrade on them! (yes they have a native "upgrade", but you can't change it to your liking) That, dear friends and colleagues, is the difference and why ANet was so quick to break out the nerf bat on the SoA axe ...

And i'd also like to throw a quick smack upside the head to anyone who thought they'd genuinely get away with using two grips on a single weapon!

NERF BAT FTW!

EDIT: sorry about the horrible image; i'm at work and nowhere near photo-edit programs on my home PC ... please don't sue me, Nerf(tm)! (hell they probably like all the free advertising )
